    About Workshop:

SEL Peers4Play Workshop with LEGO® bricks is a way to integrate SEL elements, focusing in particular on cooperative group learning and team work through game. LEGO bricks find their use in many therapeutic approaches for enhancing social-emotional skills and promoting emotional well-being of children.

SEL stands for Social-Emotional Learning and SENG for Social-Emotional Needs of Gifted which means that this workshop’s focus is to contribute to better social skills of children through play. It also means that is gifted, talented and 2e friendly because these children have specific development challenges and have specific social-emotional needs. We will try to address some of these needs through this workshop. I’m eager to help children reach their social-emotional potential by having more meaningful play. LEGO bricks will serve me as a tool to infuse Social and Emotional Learning through play.

SEL Peers4Play Workshop with LEGO bricks models healthy, positive, caring relationships for children, better self-awareness of strengths and suggest them to use these strengths in new game challenge. As certified facilitator of the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methods, I know how powerful tool LEGO bricks can be and decided to use them in my SEL workshops with children while teaching them collaborative and team work skills that they will need very much in the future. As SEL Certified Specialist, I know how to use play in order to structure SEL curriculum in a way that it’s not heavy for children. The much needed SEL will happen spontaneously.

We use LEGO bricks in other GiftedLab’s workshops too. Read more about My Future Job Workshop.

    + Why use LEGO® bricks?!
How efficient LEGO® therapeutic groups can be is described by Daniel LeGoff, licensed and board-pediatric neuropsychologist, the pioneer of LEGO® Therapy. In his book “How LEGO®-Based Therapy for Autism Works: Landing on My Planet” (Kindle English Edition), LeGoff relates the effects of “LEGO®-Based Therapy on 2e children with autistic conditions” and point that “the weakness of many treatment approaches, aside from dependence on adults, was the lack of sustained engagement and opportunity for self-expression….the key to a successful therapeutic experience was bringing out the child’s own creativity and engagement with life….They (autistic children) not only wanted to share LEGO® materials with each other, but they wanted to do so efficiently, and with a goal in mind: a joint purpose, a shared accomplishment.”
